Final Post ...

The last word on the book blog this year goes to Mr Joy, who, sadly, is leaving SPS at the end of this term, but was kind enough to answer the book blog's questionnaire before departing.

What were you reading when you were a teenager?
A lot of history, with more than a smattering of: crime; legal; action,‘thrillers’!

What are you planning to read this Christmas?
Munich, by Robert Harris

What/who is your all-time favourite book/writer?
My all-time favourite book is Birdsong, by Sebastian Faulks, which just pips Stalingrad, by Anthony Beevor.

Who’s your favourite fictional character?
Jack Reacher. Indestructible.

Do you have a favourite word/favourite line from a book?
Not really, but this quote from Birdsong I find quite haunting: 'Something had been buried that was not yet dead.' – in relation to subterranean warfare, and in particular the tunnelling activity that became critical, and cost much.

If you had to recommend one book that everyone should read, what would it be?
Birdsong.

Many thanks to Mr Joy for taking the trouble to answer the book blog's questions at such a busy time, and we wish him all the best for life beyond St Paul's!
