World Book Day: Shelfie Quiz Number 3 ...

Well - we must confess: we think we made yesterday's quiz too easy.  We'll reveal the answers in a minute, but first of all, our third Shelfie quiz of the week. This one might be trickier. Today, all our shelfies come from the same Dept: English. Mr Gardner, Dr Pryce, Mr Pirrie, Miss McLaren, Mr Harris and former English teacher Miss Muir have kindly sent in their snapshots, and now it's your turn to work out which books belong to who. So - where does Madame Bovary rub shoulders with Flaubert's parrot? Who's kept their Christmas lights up, and whose bookshelf is shrouded in gloom? Did we realise English teachers were such fans of Mike Brearley?? and whose cactus is that??? Click on this link - Wednesday's Shelfie Quiz - if you'd like to take part.

Meanwhile, the apparently-not-particularly-difficult-to-figure-out answers to yesterday's quiz. Although some of the shelfies were easy, Shelfie 1 foxed a fair few of you: it belonged to ....

... Mr Tofts, as 35% of you correctly guessed. The majority (42%) thought it might belong to Dr Holmes (was it Katherine Rundell's Super-Infinite that suggested 'Physics'? Or at least metaphysics - it's about poet John Donne).  Shelfie 2, tho, was much more of a known unknown: although a few of you thought Dr Holmes and Mr Tofts might be contenders, a mammoth 72% of you correctly recognised that this shelfie belonged to ...

.... head of Sci-Fi and Fantasy Soc, Mr Green.  Shelfie 3 featured an extraordinarily wide range of languages - unsurprisingly, Mr Tofts and Miss Cotton were potential candidates for this one - but 68% of you guessed rightly that the three copies of Bonjour Tristesse belonged to ...

... Miss Byrne.  Shelfie 4 was the first of our colour coded shelfies: this eclectic collection, this rainbow of wide-ranging reading belonged to ...

... Dr Holmes, with one of the most subtly gradated libraries of this year's quiz: and 44% of you got this right.  The second spectroscopic shelfie drew a high recognition rate: from Vogue to Richard Dawkins, by way of Dishoom, this elegant collection clearly belonged to ...

... Miss Squire, as an impressive 65% of you deduced.  Our final shelfie - well, yes, ok, it was probably a bit easy.  The books are in German. ALL of them. It might have been a trick question - but it wasn't.  And 83% of you were utterly confident, quite correctly, that this shelfie belonged to ...

... Miss Cotton.  The Head of German. Natürlich!  Thanks very much to all the teachers who kindly donated yesterday's shelfies: and have fun with today's quiz!
